Sant'Agnese

MONTEPULCIANO


It was built in 1306, thanks to Agnese Segni, lady from Montepulciano. It was radically restored in 1600. The facade preserves the portal, dated 1300, while the other decorative pieces were realized in 1900. The brick bell tower dates back to early 1700. The single nave interior, preserves a fresco, dated 1300, representing a Madonna with Child by Simone Martini’s pupils; a wooden “Crucifix”, by German artists dated 1200, “the Archangel Saint Michael that defeats the demon” by Francesco Curradi ( late 1500), a fresco of a “ Madonna of the Milk” by Sienese artists, dated middle 1400. On the major altar is located the Dominican Saint’s corpse.
