SARTEANO

It was the most ancient church of Sarteano, one of the three Romanesque parishes in town. Its ruins are visible immediately outside the town walls along the old road for Chiusi.
Legend tells us that it was originally a pagan temple. It already existed during the XIth century and it was completed in 1205. Not being used anymore for worshipping , around the end of the XVIIIth century it was transformed into a cemetery. Presently, the columns of the carved portal, the apses and the sandstone capitals are still recognizable.
