Palazzo Comunale ex Palazzo Pretorio

MONTEPULCIANO

It ‘s located in the heart of Montepulciano, in Piazza Grande. It’s a three story structure with the last story crowned by a patrol communication dented trench . On the upper part rises the two story tower with battlements. The construction dates back to the second half of the year 1300.A recent theory attributes the facade to Michelozzo Gozzoli, to whom the project was commissioned in 1424. The building, covered with travertine, is in a style, typical of Florence. The ground floor, rusticated in irregular rows, presents on the sides of the portal two structures; the one on the left supports a griffon. A fine frame separates the rustic part from the second floor with eight openings, six windows and two central niches. On the second floor, four smaller windows repeat the themes of the lower floor. Going through the portal, we find a garden, dated 1300, with two beautiful loggia, one on top of the other. The panoramic view from the top of the tower is very interesting. It ‘s located in the heart of Montepulciano, in Piazza Grande.
